Jim Edgar Panther Creek State Fish and Wildlife Area is a 16,500 acre site, 26 square miles in size. Located in west central Iliinois this site is a beautiful contrast to the corn -bean landscape of central Illinois. The site has thousands of acres of grassland and forest. Native grass which once covered central Illinois has been restablished here and the prairie wild flowers can be breathtaking in the summer and early fall. The site has two campgrounds. Prairie Lake Campground is 84 sites with 18 of them Class AA which means they have electric, water, and sewer drops. There are also nine rent a cabins in this campground which are two room cabins with two sets of bunk beds in the back room and a double bed in the front room. The beds have mattresses on them but you bring your own bedding. Questing Hills Campground is for equestrian use. There are 51 electric sites with gravel pads. All campsites have picnic tables and firegrils. Both campgrounds have a shower building. The site also has two group camps. There are nine day use area shelters. All cabins, shelters, both group camps, and 75% of the campsites are reservable. There are three Lakes at this site and several ponds stocked with largemouth bass, sunfish, crappie, and catfish. Prairie Lake also has muskies and small mouth bass. There are 26 miles of equestrian trail, 24 miles of mountain bike trail, 9 miles of paved bike trail, three miles of hiking only trail, and a quarter mile wild flower trail. The equestrian and mountain bike trail can also be hiked. The three mile trail and the 24 miles of mountain bike trail could also be used for cross country skiing From January 16th-March 31st when we have four inchs of snow we have 20 miles of snowmobile trail. The area is famouus for its quality archery deer hunting. This past year we had hunters from 27 states visit the site. We are second or third each year in dove harvest on Illinois public land. Are Control Pheasant Program is the highest quality program of its type in the state. We also have some of the best wild quail hunting in the state. If you enjoy the out of doors this site is worth a visit. |

Located 25 miles northwest of Springfield north of HWY 125 between Ashland and Chandlerville.Vistors from the north east should take interstate 55 to the first Springfield exit which will put you on Veterans Pkway the west bypass around Springfield. Prodeed to 97 west and turn right. 97 intersects with 125 west of town and at this intersection proceed west on 125 until west of Ashland Illinois where you will be directed by signs to the office. Visitors from the south should take interstate 55 to Interstate 72 west and follow the signs from the intersection of interstate 72 and the Ashland- Alexander blacktop exit. Visitors from the west would use HWY 125 and follow the signs from Virginia to the site. Visitors from the east would approach on HWY 125 and follow the signs off 125 located west of Ashland, Illinois |

Camping fees are refundable if cancellation notification is received no later than 3 days prior to arrival. Shelter Reservations are non-refundable unless the area is closed by the Department, in this circumstance the Site Manager will contact you prior to your reservation date to cancel and issue your refund. A responsible adult (18 years of age or older) from the camping party must register for the party and thereby acknowledge compliance with the rules and regulations of the park for the party. Prairie Lake Campground is an Alcohol free area. At least one adult must accompany each group of 15 minors. Special camping rate reductions apply to Illinois residents only. The maximum length of camping stay from May 1st - September 30 is 14 nights in any 30 day period. All pets must be on a leash unless being used for hunting or being trained in the dog training area. Groups of 25 or more are required to register in advance with the park office .
